My good friend Kelly sent me the link to a conflict free diamond jeweler. (She also sent me the mp3 of “Wagon Wheel” and I cried listening to it. I didn’t realize it was a song when Man in Kentucky sent me that text, clueless me! After listening to the lyrics, now his message means even more). Thank you, Kelly!
Anyway, I think I found the ring….and like the BrilliantEarth website says, its a ring “untarnished by wars, human rights violations, and terrorism.” (My conscience can rest assured). Plus, it is GORGEOUS- micro-pave diamond setting with a Sapphire solitaire. I’d take it in either white gold or platinum. I won’t be picky on that
Man in Kentucky is reading this and he might be rolling his eyes, but a girl can dream, right? If nothing else, we can, like MsSingleMama suggested, keep it on hold for the 10th anniversary? (Hey, I told Man in Kentucky he can have his Aston Martin in 15 years, and that is a significantly greater chunk of change).
I loved reading all of your cheers for us…Thank You! (Katherine, I do feel a bit guilty for how lucky I am to have found a man like MiK).
I also loved your comments about ring ideas– Man in Kentucky got lots of thumbs up for wanting to go with a Sapphire instead of a diamond. I am in quite in love with the idea as well.
(Hey hon, if we can’t afford a real sapphire we could always go with cubic zirconium and ink it up with a blue sharpie
…
I love you even if all that winds up on my left hand in December is a place-holding yellow string.)

When we went to look at my ring setting, there was a diamond in the setting. We mentioned we liked sapphires and the saleswoman busted out a blue sharpie and colored the 8,000 dollar diamond blue. She said she would just put in in the steam cleaner overnight. At that very moment we were sold on sapphires.
One more tip: Sapphires actually weigh more than diamonds, so a carat sapphire is a lot smaller looking than a carat diamond. Just an FYI.
Thanks so miracle for this! Good to know about the sapphires weighing more, very very good to know. And funny about the sharpie too!
That’s perfect for you! It’s gorgeous! How exciting!
That ring is very you….elegant, simple, honest, and BEAUTIFUL!
What an absolutely beautiful ring!!! Thumbs up from this side of the country!
Wow girl! That ring is SPECTACULAR!!!
just like your love….
The ring is beautiful! We educated ourselves a lot about gems before we went shopping. I dragged my (now) husband to a diamond buying seminar at Tiffany that ended up being really informative.
In the end we had our rings made. The jeweler let me choose all the stones and the gold (he had several chunks of melted gold because he also owned a pawn shop).
I love that my ring is one of a kind and that I had a part in it’s design. I stare at all the time and it’s been on my finger for 10 years.
Having it made was much more cost effective (for us) than going through a store. Just thought I’d throw that out there.
Congratulations!

I love that ring- looks like you!
Still can’t imagine spending that much on anything, let alone a piece of jewelry but I am a complete thrift-a-holic, should probably see someone about that right up there with my fear of commitment.
I was telling Mr. Man about all of this over the T-day and he said he’d like to make me a ring… out of like a crushed railroad penny or something.
He’s even MORE extreme than I am! Isn’t that funny?
Hugs! SO happy for you!
