I just returned home from my trip and actually survived the the regularly hellish experience of airport security, stop-overs and delays with relative ease. (Just to be on the safe side, though, I avoided all airport food this time that didn’t come pre-packaged–see sick as a dog for explanation).
You want to know the trick? Where an I Heart Single Parents t-shirt. And I’m not just saying this to help iHeart sell more shirts. MsSingleMama is already doing a generous job at that, anyway (Look how awesome she is in the shirt)!
Wearing my I Heart Single Parents vintage style tee and lugging my suitcase, diaper bag, laptop, and Lucca, I didn’t realize the reaction I was going to get. The public’s usual oblivion shifted, and strangers came out of the woodwork to give a single mom a hand. This was incredibly appreciated especially at the security checkpoint, which I got to go through twice.
The first time my son flipped out so hard because he couldn’t hold onto his matchbox cars or his bottle while going thru the metal detector.
After we cleared TSA and my shoes and his shoes were back on, the laptop and all the 3 oz liquids were repacked and we began our march down to a distant gate, L turned in a flash and bolted right back through the no-entry point, matchbox cars in hand.
I had no choice but to chase after him and go thru the whole circus again. However, the TSA agents had mercy on me…one of them read my shirt and said, “Single parent, ehe? Tough job….here go in this line.”
Thanks to my I Heart Shirt we got to cruise through the special line normally reserved for V.I.P and flight crew. Granted, it was our second time through and rather ridiculous that we even had to get screened again, but there’s not a whole lot of wiggle room in those homeland security rules.
The t-shirt also had a side benefit…it gave me license to flirt with the pilot. Pre-boarding I was trying to hit-him up for some of those now very elusive wings they used to give out so generously. No luck on the wings for Lucca, but still fun for mom.

[...] this out! Morgan wore the t-shirt through the airport and got help from strangers and extra face (flirt) time with a pilot. Okay, going to wear mine [...]
That’s AWESOME! I’m going to wear mine again tonight …
: )
I’m not saying this to sell more shirts either (I work for Spreadshirt)… thank you for sharing this story! It puts a giant smile on my face, because it happens to me all the time. I’m in the airport frequently, and “message” shirts like this get so much friendly attention. My favorite to wear is my I <3 NH (it is the state of New Hampshire outline rather than the letters), which always has people asking which state it is. I stopped wearing my “I know something you don’t know” shirt, because I had so many people asking what I knew that I couldn’t get any reading done. Keep writing!
OK whoa! I need to get me one of those!!!
Just got my shirt and can’t wait to try it out in the wide, wide world! Thank you, thank you.
